How to delete your Twitch account
Twitch is the largest live video streaming platform, owned by Amazon, focused on gaming, IRL streaming, and creator content. Twitch stores your channel, every VOD and clip you saved, chat history across every stream you participated in, follows, subscriptions, Bits transactions, payment info for Affiliates/Partners, and the contents of every whisper (DM). Deletion is fast but Affiliate or Partner accounts often require a support ticket to close cleanly.
Delete your Twitch account, step by step
- 1Log in to twitch.tv on a desktop browser
- 2Click your avatar in the top-right > 'Settings'
- 3Open 'Security and Privacy'
- 4Scroll to the bottom and click 'Disable Account' (the deletion option is on the linked page)
- 5Re-enter your password
- 6Choose 'Delete Account' (not 'Disable')
- 7Confirm — account is queued for permanent deletion
What actually happens when you delete

Before you delete
If you're a Twitch Affiliate or Partner you typically need to file a support ticket BEFORE deletion so they can close out unpaid revenue, terminate your tax forms, and cancel ad/sub agreements properly. Cancel Turbo, Prime Gaming-linked Twitch subs, and any active recurring subs you pay separately. VODs and Highlights you saved are erased — download them first if you want to keep them.
Download your data from Twitch first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

- 2Click 'Exercise My Rights' under 'Right to Know' or 'Right to Portability'
- 3Pick the type of data you want
- 4Verify your email
- 5Twitch responds within 45 days (typically much faster) with a link to your archive

What's the difference between disabling and deleting a Twitch account?+
Disabling hides your profile and chat presence but keeps everything intact so you can come back. Deletion is permanent and queues your VODs, clips, follows, and chat history for removal. Disable first if you're not 100% sure.
Can I delete my Twitch account if I'm an Affiliate or Partner?+
Technically yes, but file a support ticket first. Twitch needs to handle outstanding ad revenue, sub payouts, and tax forms tied to your Affiliate/Partner status. Self-service deletion can complicate the financial close-out.
What happens to clips of my stream that other people made?+
Those clips live on the clipper's account, not yours. They survive your deletion. You can report individual clips for removal via the Twitch report flow if they contain content you don't want shared.
Will deleting Twitch cancel my subscriptions to other channels?+
Yes — your subscriptions stop at the end of the current billing cycle. Twitch Prime subs (free via Amazon Prime) end immediately. If you subscribed via the iOS or Android app, cancel through Apple or Google first.
Can someone else take my Twitch username after I delete?+
After a cooldown period, deleted usernames may be released and re-claimed by another user. If you want to keep the handle parked, change it to something throwaway (Settings > username) before deleting so the original stays locked under an active account.
Will my Twitch VODs and clips be deleted from YouTube too?+
Only if you uploaded them directly to YouTube and then delete your YouTube channel as well. Twitch can't reach into YouTube to remove content — handle each platform's deletion separately.
