How to delete your Last.fm account

Streaming & MediaOwned by CBS InteractiveSelf-service onlineDifficulty: EasyTime: instantVerified June 2026

Last.fm is a music tracking service ('scrobbling') that logs every song you listen to across Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and others, building a public listening profile. Last.fm stores your entire scrobble history (sometimes millions of plays), loved tracks, friends, shouts, group memberships, and tag history. Despite its niche status, Last.fm profiles often go back 15+ years, making them a useful target for someone wanting to clean up their digital trail.

What actually happens when you delete

Gets removed

  • Your username, profile, avatar, and country/age data
  • Entire scrobble history (every song play ever logged)
  • Loved tracks, taste profile, and recommendations
  • Friends, shouts, and group memberships
  • Scrobble connections to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc.

Stays behind

  • Shouts you left on other users' profiles persist as authored by deleted user
  • Records Last.fm retains for fraud and abuse prevention
  • Aggregated, anonymized listening data used for global charts and recommendations
  • Comments on artist/album pages from other users referencing yours
  • Cached profile pages on Google for some time after deletion

Before you delete

Last.fm deletion is INSTANT — no grace period and no recovery. Years (or decades) of scrobble history are erased the moment you confirm. Export your data FIRST if you care about preserving your listening history. Loved tracks, shouts, and friends are deleted too. Unscrobbling individual tracks is possible without deleting the account (track page > more > 'Delete this scrobble'), but there is no bulk-delete tool built in.

Download your data from Last.fm first

Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

  1. 1Open Settings > 'Account'
  2. 2Click 'Download your data'
  3. 3Last.fm generates a downloadable ZIP of your scrobbles, loved tracks, and account info
  4. 4Archive is delivered via the same page; for very large histories it can take up to 24 hours
  5. 5Third-party tools like Lastfm-tools also allow CSV export via the public API

Last.fm deletion FAQs

Is Last.fm account deletion really instant?+

Yes. The moment you click confirm, your scrobble history, loved tracks, profile, and friends are erased. There is no 14- or 30-day grace period. Export everything you want to keep BEFORE clicking confirm.

Can I delete just my scrobble history without deleting my account?+

Yes, but slowly. Open Library > Tracks, hover a scrobble, click '...' > 'Delete scrobble'. Last.fm intentionally does not have a 'delete all scrobbles' button, but third-party tools can walk your history via the API and delete in bulk.

Will my scrobbles continue arriving after I delete Last.fm?+

If you don't unlink Spotify/Apple Music/etc., the connectors will keep trying to scrobble after your account is gone. Disconnect the integrations FIRST in Spotify settings, Apple Music settings, etc.

Does deleting Last.fm affect my Spotify or Apple Music account?+

No. Last.fm is purely a listener of those services. Deleting Last.fm only removes Last.fm; your Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal accounts are unaffected and your music libraries remain intact.

Can my Last.fm username be reused after deletion?+

Last.fm typically retires deleted usernames to prevent identity confusion, though policy can vary. Don't count on being able to register the same handle again after deletion.

Will my Last.fm scrobble history be lost on Spotify too?+

No — Spotify's own listening history is separate (Spotify > Account > Privacy > Download your data). Last.fm only mirrors what you listened to; deleting it doesn't touch Spotify's records.
