How to delete your Canva account

Canva is an Australian online design platform for presentations, social graphics, documents, videos, websites and print orders. Your account holds far more than a few graphics: every design, folder and project you have ever made, your entire uploads library (images, videos, audio and custom fonts), Brand Kits, templates you published, and any teams or Canva apps you created. On the identity side Canva stores your first and last name, email address, phone number and profession, your avatar and public profile, connected social logins (Google/Facebook/Apple), billing and print-order records, plus usage data it collects automatically — clickstream and analytics event data, device identifiers, IP address and your precise or approximate location. Deleting the account is self-service and free, but it is irreversible: Canva states plainly that once deleted, your account "can't be recovered."

Delete your Canva account, step by step

  1. 1Before you start, download anything you want to keep — Canva says all your designs, folders, templates and uploads, as well as teams and apps that you created, will be 'permanently deleted', and the account 'can't be recovered'
  2. 2If you're on Canva Pro, Canva Teams or Canva Business, cancel your plan first — Canva explicitly tells paid users to 'cancel your plan first to avoid continuous charges'. Route: profile menu > 'Settings' > 'Billing' ('Contract period' in Japan) > 'Cancel plan' > 'Continue cancellation' > pick a reason > 'Cancel subscription'. If you subscribed through Google Play, the App Store or PayPal you must cancel there instead — Canva cannot cancel those
  3. 3If you want the bulk export of your designs, request it and WAIT for it to finish — Canva warns that 'After requesting the download, you won't be able to delete your account'
  4. 4Sign in to canva.com. Desktop is easiest; the help article also documents an in-app Mobile path, but the bulk export is desktop-only
  5. 5On the homepage, select your profile icon and select 'Your account'. (Canva is rolling out navigation changes, so this menu may read 'Settings'; if you can't find your profile photo on the homepage, look under 'More')
  6. 6Select 'Account & security' — or go straight to canva.com/settings/login-and-security
  7. 7Under the 'Account Actions' tab, in the 'Delete your account' section, click 'Delete account'
  8. 8If your account has a password, enter your password to confirm. If you sign in with Google/Facebook/Apple and have no password, Canva sends a code to your registered email address — check your inbox and enter the code into the pop-up window
  9. 9Select 'Delete Account' to finalize the process
  10. 10Your account will be deleted in 14 days. Do NOT log in during that window — Canva cancels the request 'by simply logging in to your account', so sign out on any phone or browser that signs you in automatically

What actually happens when you delete

Gets removed

  • ✓Every design, folder and project in your account — Canva states all designs, folders, templates and uploads are 'permanently deleted' and the account 'can't be recovered'
  • ✓Your entire uploads library: images, videos, audio and custom fonts you uploaded
  • ✓Templates you created, plus any teams you created and any Canva apps you created
  • ✓Your profile record — first and last name, email address, phone number and profession (the same fields Canva includes in a personal-data export) — along with your avatar and connected social logins
  • ✓Your login access to Affinity: Canva states that if you delete your Canva account you can keep using Affinity offline for 14 days, after which a Canva account is required

Stays behind

  • ✗Canva sets no hard purge deadline. Its privacy policy says that following termination or deactivation, 'Canva will retain your profile information and User Content for a commercially reasonable time, and for as long as we have a valid purpose to do so'
  • ✗Copies retained 'for the purpose of complying with its legal and audit obligations, and for backup and archival purposes' — these survive the 14-day deletion
  • ✗Work you contributed to someone else's Team: under Canva's Terms of Use, 'the Team Owner or Administrator may control access to, delete, or re-assign ownership to the User Content you upload and Designs you create on the account you access as part of the Team'
  • ✗Anything collaborators already downloaded, duplicated into their own accounts, or shared onward via a design link, plus files you exported to other platforms
  • ✗Canva Creators library content: a Creator team 'can only be deactivated on our end', so that Canva designs using your library content don't break and Canva can keep paying you royalties. Removing your public creator details requires a separate request to the Creators support team
  • ✗Billing and print-order records, and — if you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play — the purchase and payment history held by that app store, which Canva cannot delete

Before you delete

Four real gotchas. First, ordering: requesting the bulk data download LOCKS account deletion until the export finishes (Canva quotes 24-72 hours), so either export and wait, or skip the export entirely. Second, the 14-day delay is a live trap — Canva cancels the deletion 'by simply logging in to your account', so any stray login from a phone app or an auto-signed-in browser silently reverses it; sign out everywhere after submitting. Third, Canva Creators cannot self-delete: the account errors out because a Creator team 'can only be deactivated on our end', to keep live designs using your library assets from breaking and to keep royalty payments flowing; that path goes through the Creators support form. Fourth, deletion revokes Affinity access — Canva allows 14 days of offline Affinity use after account deletion, then a Canva account is required. Note also that Canva publishes no purge deadline for deleted data: it retains profile info and User Content 'for a commercially reasonable time' plus for legal, audit, backup and archival purposes, so follow up with [email protected] (or, in the EEA/UK, Canva's representative EDPO at edpo.com/gdpr-data-request/ and edpo.com/uk-gdpr-data-request/) if you need a documented erasure. Canva's help pages are actively being renavigated — the article itself warns that steps 'may not accurately reflect what you see in the app' and to look under 'More' if your profile photo isn't on the homepage.

Download your data from Canva first

Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

  1. 1Sign in to canva.com on a desktop browser — Canva states bulk download is 'available on desktop only', and if you're part of a team 'only the team owner' can download uploads and designs made in the team
  2. 2On the homepage, select your account profile to open the menu
  3. 3Choose 'Settings'
  4. 4Select 'Account & security'
  5. 5Depending on the account type, go to 'Download your Canva uploads and designs', or if part of a team, 'Download your Canva team uploads and designs'
  6. 6Click 'Request to download'. Note Canva's warning: after requesting the download you won't be able to delete your account until it completes
  7. 7Wait for Canva's email saying your uploads and designs are ready. Exporting may take 24-72 hours depending on the amount of content; if it takes longer than 72 hours, chat with the Help Assistant
  8. 8Go back to your Account settings page and click 'Download'. The link is available for 14 days, and the 'Your Canva download' window splits the export into separate files based on how much you have
  9. 9The export covers your uploaded images, videos, fonts and designs, plus personal data — Canva says this 'comprises your first and last name, email, phone number, and profession'
  10. 10If the email says Canva was unable to copy everything, download the file and check what's missing, look for missing designs on your Projects page and download them from the editor one by one, and if you still can't find them contact Canva through the Help Assistant within 14 days of receiving the link

Deactivation hides your profile without permanently destroying it. Logging back in restores everything.

  1. 1Canva does not offer an account deactivate, hibernate or freeze option — the only account-level action is deletion. Two partial alternatives are documented. (1) The built-in 14-day grace period: after you submit the deletion request the account is not destroyed until day 14, and it stays fully usable in the meantime — logging in during that window cancels the request and leaves the account intact. (2) If you only want to stop paying, cancel or pause the subscription instead of deleting. Canva lets you pause a Canva Pro, Canva Teams or Canva Business plan for up to 3 months with no charges during the pause and automatic resumption with an email reminder beforehand. If you cancel outright, you keep paid features to the end of the billing period and then, in Canva's words, 'All designs remain accessible on Canva Free', 'Your Canva account stays active', and 'Affinity remains accessible for free with your Canva account'.

If deletion fails — or you live in the EU, UK, or California

You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.

Canva deletion FAQs

Can I undo deleting my Canva account?+

Only within the 14-day window. Canva queues the deletion for 14 days and says 'You can cancel your request by simply logging in to your account' — no support ticket needed. That cuts both ways: an accidental login during those 14 days silently cancels the deletion. Once the 14 days elapse the account is gone and Canva states it 'can't be recovered' — there is no restore and no design recovery.

Why does Canva show an error when I try to delete my account?+

The documented cause is that you own a Creator team. Canva's help article says a Creator team 'can only be deactivated on our end to prevent Canva designs using your library content from breaking and allow us to continue paying you royalties'. The fix is to contact the Creators support team through Canva's Creators support form (canva.com/help/creators-support-form/) and request deletion of your public details and deactivation of your library content.

Do I have to cancel Canva Pro before deleting my account?+

Yes — Canva's delete-account article tells Canva Pro, Canva Teams and Canva Business users to cancel the plan first to avoid continuous charges; deleting the account is not treated as a cancellation. Cancel at profile menu > Settings > Billing > Cancel plan. If you subscribed through Google Play, the App Store or PayPal you must cancel through that platform, because Canva cannot cancel those subscriptions. Cancelling stops future payments and you keep paid features until the end of the current billing period; your designs stay accessible on Canva Free and the account itself stays active. One warning: Canva says cancelling Canva Teams is permanent — you won't be able to resubscribe to Teams afterwards.

How do I download my designs before deleting?+

Use the bulk export, which is desktop-only: profile menu > 'Settings' > 'Account & security', then 'Download your Canva uploads and designs' (or 'Download your Canva team uploads and designs' if you're in a team — only the team owner can export team content) and click 'Request to download'. Canva emails you when it's ready; exporting can take 24-72 hours depending on how much content you have, and the download link stays valid for 14 days. Critically, Canva states 'After requesting the download, you won't be able to delete your account' — so export first, wait for it to complete, then delete.

Does deleting my Canva account erase my data from Canva's servers?+

Not immediately or completely. Canva's privacy policy commits only to retaining your profile information and User Content 'for a commercially reasonable time, and for as long as we have a valid purpose to do so', and adds that it retains information 'for the purpose of complying with its legal and audit obligations, and for backup and archival purposes'. For a formal access or erasure request, email [email protected] — Canva says it will authenticate the request using the email address on your account and, if necessary, proof of residency. If you're in the EEA or UK you can instead use Canva's designated representative EDPO: request forms at edpo.com/gdpr-data-request/ (EEA) and edpo.com/uk-gdpr-data-request/ (UK), contact [email protected].

What happens to my team and the designs I shared with it?+

Teams you created are permanently deleted along with your account — Canva lists 'teams and apps that you created' among what is permanently deleted. But content you posted into someone else's team is different: Canva's Terms of Use say 'the Team Owner or Administrator may control access to, delete, or re-assign ownership to the User Content you upload and Designs you create on the account you access as part of the Team.' If you own a team other people depend on, hand it over before you delete — the Terms note that 'Only the Team Owner may assign a new Team Owner', so nobody else can do it once your account is gone.

Can I delete my Canva account from the phone app?+

Yes — Canva's delete-account article documents a Mobile path alongside the Desktop one. But the bulk data export is explicitly 'available on desktop only', and subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play have to be cancelled in that store. The cleanest order is to do it all on desktop at canva.com: cancel the plan, run and complete the export, then delete — so you don't hit the block that stops deletion while a download request is pending.
