How to delete your VSCO account

VSCO (Visual Supply Company, based at 548 Market St in San Francisco) is a photo-editing and photo-sharing app. Your account holds every image and video you published to your Grid, your Collections (reposts) and Journals, your purchases, plus account credentials — email address, phone number, password and date of birth — along with your display name, username, bio, profile photo, interests and profile links. VSCO also logs device and usage data tied to your account: operating system, device type, IP address, unique identifiers and general location. Deletion is self-service, but it is gated behind a browser verification email, the route differs depending on how you signed up (email, phone number or Google/Apple/Snapchat/Facebook SSO), and it does not cancel your paid VSCO Membership.

Delete your VSCO account, step by step

  1. 1Cancel your VSCO Membership FIRST. Deleting the account does not stop billing. Cancel it wherever you bought it — the Apple App Store, Google Play, Samsung, or directly on vsco.co if you subscribed on the web
  2. 2If you want a copy of your photos and data, request it before deleting (see the data export steps) — the snapshot takes up to two hours to build and expires seven days later
  3. 3If you have a VSCO Workspace account you also want gone, delete that FIRST: go to https://workspace.vsco.co/home and click the Support button at the top of the home screen. Workspace is a separate account and is unaffected by deleting your VSCO account
  4. 4Identify how your account was created, because it determines the route:
  5. 5- Created with Google, Apple, Snapchat or Facebook SSO → you must use the VSCO iOS app (step 8). The web flow will not work
  6. 6- Created with a phone number → do step 5 first
  7. 7- Created with an email address → skip to step 6
  8. 8Phone-number accounts: open the VSCO app and sign in, tap the Profile tab (smiley face), tap the pencil icon at the top right, open the 'My Info' tab, and at the bottom replace your phone number with an email address you can actually send and receive mail from. If VSCO says the email is in use, it belongs to another VSCO account and you'll need a different one
  9. 9Sign in to vsco.co in a web browser — mobile web, desktop or laptop all work. Signing in registers a new device, so VSCO emails a verification link to the address on the account
  10. 10Open that email and click the verification link before going any further. Gmail users: check the 'Promotions' tab. Everyone: check spam, and allow 5-10 minutes for it to arrive. If you skip this, 'Delete Account' returns an error
  11. 11Once the browser is verified, click 'Account' in the bottom-left corner of vsco.co, open the 'Privacy & Data' tab, select 'Delete Account', enter your password and confirm
  12. 12iOS app route (required for SSO accounts, optional otherwise): tap the Global Menu icon in the top-left corner, select 'Settings', select 'Delete my account', type the VSCO security phrase it displays, then select 'Delete VSCO profile'
  13. 13If you no longer have access to the email or phone number on the account, contact VSCO Support instead. They will ask for your VSCO username, the email or phone number linked to the account, a scan of a government-issued ID (reviewed then deleted after verification), and a data privacy verification form they provide — make sure the username on the form matches the account
  14. 14Your profile may still be publicly viewable for several hours while the deletion processes. That is expected, not a failed request

What actually happens when you delete

Gets removed

  • Your VSCO profile and public Grid, including every photo and video you published to it
  • Your Collections (reposted images) and any Journals you created
  • Your VSCO purchases — both mobile and desktop products bought through the account
  • Account credentials tied to the profile: email address, phone number, password and date of birth
  • Profile data — display name, username, bio, profile photo, interests and profile links
  • All other data associated with the account

Stays behind

  • Your paid VSCO Membership — billing continues through whichever platform you bought it on (Apple, Google, Samsung, or vsco.co) until you cancel it there; VSCO states plainly that 'deactivating or deleting your VSCO account does not cancel your subscription'
  • Your VSCO Workspace account, which is a completely separate account and must be deleted through the Workspace team at workspace.vsco.co
  • Copies of your data sitting in backup archives or in certain emails — VSCO's privacy policy says that where deletion or anonymization 'isn't possible or practical' it instead stores the data securely and isolates it from further processing
  • Anything other people copied, screenshotted or reposted, and anything you cross-posted elsewhere — VSCO's privacy policy states that 'even after your account is deleted, your content may still be visible'
  • Search-engine and social-preview caches of your vsco.co/username page, until those crawlers re-index the now-dead URL
  • Personal information VSCO says it cannot immediately delete due to regulatory or legal requirements, plus records retained to satisfy legal, accounting or reporting requirements, to establish or defend legal claims, or for fraud prevention

Before you delete

Four real gotchas. (1) Deletion is gated behind browser verification: signing in to vsco.co triggers a verification email, and 'Delete Account' errors out until you click that link — the single most common reason people think VSCO's delete button is broken. Allow 5-10 minutes and check Gmail's Promotions tab. (2) The route depends on how you signed up. Google/Apple/Snapchat/Facebook SSO accounts cannot be deleted from the web at all and must use the iOS app path. Phone-number accounts have to first replace the phone number with a working email via Profile tab > pencil icon > 'My Info'. Only email accounts go straight to the web flow. (3) Deleting the account does not cancel the paid VSCO Membership — VSCO has a dedicated article saying so — because billing sits with the store you bought it from (Apple, Google, Samsung) or with vsco.co for web purchases such as VSCO One. Cancel there first. (4) VSCO Workspace is a separate product with a separate account; deleting one does not delete the other, and VSCO recommends deleting Workspace first via workspace.vsco.co/home > Support. If you've lost access to your email or phone, deletion becomes a Support ticket requiring a government-ID scan and a privacy verification form. Deletion is irreversible and permanently burns the username and email; deactivation is reversible by signing back in, but it also locks that username and email against being used for a new account.

Download your data from VSCO first

Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

  1. 1Sign in to vsco.co in a web browser such as Chrome or Safari on a desktop or laptop computer — not the VSCO app. VSCO states a copy of your personal data cannot be downloaded to a mobile device
  2. 2Verify the browser session by clicking the link in the verification email VSCO sends when you sign in from a new device; without it you'll get an error
  3. 3Select 'Account' in the bottom-left corner
  4. 4Navigate to the 'Privacy & Data' tab
  5. 5Select 'Request Data Snapshot'
  6. 6Wait — the ZIP of your content and data can take up to two hours to create
  7. 7Download the file within seven days of it being created; after that you must request a new snapshot
  8. 8Note: images in your Studio are not included, because they are stored locally on your device

Want to take a break instead? Deactivate

Deactivation hides your profile without permanently destroying it. Logging back in restores everything.

  1. 1Sign in to your VSCO account — VSCO states you must be logged in to deactivate
  2. 2Choose which of the two options you want: 'Deactivate your VSCO profile but keep your VSCO account active' deactivates only your profile, including Grid, Collections and Journals, so no VSCO member can reach it while you keep using the editing tools; 'Deactivate your VSCO account which includes your VSCO profile' deactivates the whole account — you lose access to your profile and purchases and are unsubscribed from all emails
  3. 3Both options link to VSCO's deactivation form at https://vsco.co/user/deactivate; open it while signed in and follow the prompts
  4. 4To reactivate, simply sign back in to your VSCO account
  5. 5Be aware: VSCO says that once the account has been deactivated, the profile name and email address associated with it cannot be used to create a new account or link to an existing account
  6. 6Deactivation does NOT cancel your VSCO Membership or an active free trial — cancel those separately through the store you purchased from (Apple, Google, Samsung) or on vsco.co, or you'll keep being charged

VSCO deletion FAQs

Why does VSCO give me an error when I click Delete Account?+

Almost always because your browser session isn't verified. VSCO's support article is explicit: 'You must verify log in from the email that was sent to you before you can proceed with deleting your VSCO account, otherwise you will encounter an error.' Signing in to vsco.co registers a new device and triggers that email — click the link, then return to Account > 'Privacy & Data' > 'Delete Account'. Gmail users should check the 'Promotions' tab; everyone should check spam and allow 5-10 minutes. If the account was created with a phone number and has no email on file, no verification email can be sent, so you have to swap in an email first via the app: Profile tab > pencil icon > 'My Info'.

I signed up with Google/Apple/Snapchat/Facebook — why can't I find the delete option?+

Because the web flow doesn't cover SSO accounts. VSCO's delete article says that if you created your account using Google, Apple, Snapchat or Facebook SSO you must use the VSCO iOS app process instead: Global Menu icon (top-left) > 'Settings' > 'Delete my account' > type the VSCO security phrase > 'Delete VSCO profile'.

I deleted my VSCO account but I'm still being charged — why?+

Because your VSCO Membership isn't billed by the account you just deleted. VSCO's own article is titled 'Deleting or Deactivating Your VSCO Account Does Not Cancel Your Membership', and states the subscription 'is managed through the platform where you purchased it, such as Apple, Google, or Samsung'. VSCO One and other web purchases are managed on vsco.co. Cancel there first, then delete the account — VSCO cannot cancel Apple or Google subscriptions on your behalf.

Can I reuse my VSCO username or email after deleting?+

No. VSCO's support article states that 'permanent deletion removes your ability to reuse the email and username for any new or existing account.' Deactivation doesn't free them either — the deactivation article says that once deactivated, 'the VSCO profile name and email address associated with this account cannot be used to create a new account or link to an existing account.' The difference is that deactivation is reversible: you reactivate by simply signing back in. Deletion is permanent, and VSCO says it cannot recover your images afterward.

How do I download my VSCO photos before deleting my account?+

Sign in to vsco.co on a desktop or laptop in Chrome or Safari — VSCO says a copy of your personal data can't be downloaded to a mobile device. Click 'Account' in the bottom-left corner, open the 'Privacy & Data' tab, and select 'Request Data Snapshot'. The snapshot is a ZIP of your content and data that can take up to two hours to create, and once it's ready you have seven days to download it. Images sitting in your Studio are NOT included, because they're stored locally on your device. You may need to verify your browser session first, or you'll hit an error.

My profile is still showing up after I deleted it — did the deletion fail?+

Probably not. VSCO says that once you submit a deletion request 'it may take several hours to fully delete your data. During this time, your account may still be publicly viewable.' Give it a full day. Separately, search engines may keep showing a cached vsco.co/yourusername result until they recrawl the URL, which is outside VSCO's control.

I lost access to the email or phone number on my VSCO account — can I still delete it?+

Yes, but not self-service. VSCO's article says to reach out to Support, who run a Support-Assisted Deletion Process. You'll need to provide your VSCO username and the email address or phone number linked to the account, and because you can't use the original login credentials you'll also have to submit a scan of a government-issued ID (driver's licence or passport) — VSCO says this is reviewed securely and deleted after verification — plus a data privacy verification form Support sends you. Make sure the username on the form matches the account you want deleted. EU and UK residents can alternatively route a GDPR erasure request through VSCO's Article 27 representative EDPO at edpo.com/gdpr-data-request, and anyone can use VSCO's data request form at vsco.formstack.com/forms/vsco_data_request.

Does deleting the VSCO app delete my account?+

No. VSCO states it in two separate articles: 'Deleting the VSCO app does not delete your account' and 'Deleting the VSCO app does not delete your account, cancel your VSCO Membership, or cancel your free trial.' Your Grid stays public and your subscription keeps renewing until you go through the actual deletion flow on vsco.co or in the iOS app.
