How to delete your Intelius account
Intelius is one of the original people-search data brokers, founded in 2003 and now owned by PeopleConnect (which also operates Classmates, Truthfinder, US Search, and Instant Checkmate). Intelius sells background reports, criminal-records checks, contact information, and address history. Reports include phone numbers, current and previous addresses, relatives, criminal records, sex-offender flags, and bankruptcy / lien data.

What actually happens when you delete
Gets removed
- ✓Your public profile page on intelius.com
- ✓Free-preview hits in Intelius search results
- ✓Listing in US Search (sibling site)
- ✓Display of phone, address, and relatives on Intelius reports
- ✓Google indexing of the Intelius listing URL
Stays behind
- ✗Sibling PeopleConnect sites: Truthfinder, Instant Checkmate, Classmates — each needs separate opt-out
- ✗Internal database entries unless CCPA/GDPR invoked
- ✗Underlying court records and public databases
- ✗Cached pages on Google for several weeks
- ✗Marketing partners that previously bought your data
Before you delete
Intelius is part of the PeopleConnect family with Truthfinder, US Search, Classmates, and Instant Checkmate — each requires its OWN opt-out even though they share back-end data. Public records (criminal history, court records, bankruptcy filings) remain available through the original courts; opt-out only hides the Intelius-rendered version. CCPA / GDPR requests force broader internal-database removal.
Download your data from Intelius first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

If deletion fails — or you live in the EU, UK, or California
You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.
Intelius deletion FAQs
Does Intelius opt-out also remove me from Truthfinder and Instant Checkmate?+
No. Same parent company (PeopleConnect), separate sites and separate opt-out flows. You must opt out of Truthfinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search, and Classmates individually. This is one of the most common surprises with people-search removal.
How long does Intelius take to remove a listing?+
About 1–2 weeks after you confirm via email. Other PeopleConnect properties (TruthFinder etc.) have similar timelines. Google search cache can take an additional few weeks.
Why is Intelius slower than Whitepages or Spokeo?+
Intelius reports include criminal-records checks that require manual review when consumers opt out, especially if there's litigation or court-records data involved. The process is slower but generally completes within the stated window.
What if I want to remove specific data (like a wrong criminal record) but keep the rest?+
Email privacy@peopleconnect.us with details. For inaccurate criminal-records data sourced from public records, Intelius can update or remove the specific field. If the underlying public record is also wrong, you need to correct it at the source (court system) separately.
Will opting out of Intelius stop background-check companies from finding me?+
FCRA-regulated background checks for employment, tenancy, or credit run through separate channels (e.g., HireRight, Checkr) and are not affected by Intelius opt-out. Consumer-facing 'people search' opt-out removes Intelius's consumer site but does not affect FCRA-compliant background checks.
Is the Intelius opt-out free?+
Yes. Intelius does not charge for opt-out. If a site claims to do 'paid removal' from Intelius, that's a third-party service charging for what you can do yourself for free. Free options exist but reputable paid services (DeleteMe, Scrub, Kanary) handle dozens of brokers at once and re-submit when records reappear.
