How to delete your Gumroad account
Gumroad is a digital-product storefront for creators selling ebooks, courses, software, music, and templates, with hundreds of thousands of sellers. Gumroad stores your product listings, sales history, customer email list, payout banking details, tax forms (W-9, W-8BEN), affiliate program info, and (as a buyer) your purchase history and license keys. Gumroad has a unique transparency model where the marketplace and stats are mostly public.
Delete your Gumroad account, step by step
- 1Sign in to gumroad.com
- 2Open Settings > 'Account'
- 3Some accounts see a 'Delete account' button — click it if present
- 4If not, email support@gumroad.com from your registered email
- 5Subject: 'Account deletion request'
- 6Include your username, email, and confirm you want permanent deletion
- 7Gumroad confirms via email; deletion completes within 30 days

Before you delete
Sellers: download your sales reports, customer email list, and tax documents FIRST. Gumroad is required to retain transaction records for ~7 years for tax purposes. Discontinue active products and pause subscriptions (memberships) BEFORE closure so customers aren't charged for content they can't access. Buyers retain access to files they downloaded BEFORE deletion. After deletion, license keys for sold software stop validating against Gumroad's API.
Download your data from Gumroad first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

- 2Click 'Export data'
- 3Choose what to export: sales CSV, customer list, products, payouts, etc.
- 4Gumroad emails downloadable archives within 30 days
- 5Sellers should also download 1099 / tax forms from Settings > Payouts BEFORE deletion

Deactivation hides your profile without permanently destroying it. Logging back in restores everything.

You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.
Gumroad deletion FAQs
What happens to customers who already bought my Gumroad products?+
Files customers already DOWNLOADED stay on their devices. Files in their Gumroad library that they haven't downloaded yet are inaccessible after your account closes. Notify customers to download everything BEFORE you close. License keys for software stop validating against Gumroad's API.
Why must Gumroad retain my transaction records?+
Tax and AML regulations require platforms processing payments to retain records for 5–7 years. Gumroad sends you 1099-K forms (US) or equivalent and is required by IRS/HMRC to keep the underlying records. Account closure doesn't override these legal obligations.
How do I download my Gumroad sales history before deleting?+
Settings > Advanced > 'Export data' provides CSV exports of sales, products, customers, payouts, and affiliates. Also visit Settings > Payouts to download each year's tax forms BEFORE closing — re-accessing them after deletion requires a support ticket.
Can I close Gumroad if I have a membership subscription product running?+
Pause or cancel the memberships first so customers aren't charged for content they can't access. Settle pending payouts. Then submit the closure request. Active subscriptions left running while you close can lead to chargebacks against your former account.
What about my buyer side — purchases I made on Gumroad?+
Files downloaded BEFORE deletion stay on your device. After deletion, you lose Gumroad library access — files saved only in the Gumroad library are unrecoverable. Always download purchased products to local disk.
How do I check if Gumroad emailed customers about my closure?+
Gumroad does not automatically notify your customers when you close. Send a final email to your customer list (via the Newsletter feature) BEFORE closing to inform them of the closure and provide download instructions for remaining files.
