How to delete your Depop account

Depop is a peer-to-peer fashion resale marketplace with approximately 56.3 million registered users and over 68 million items listed, operated by Depop Limited (registered address The Pavilions, Bridgwater Road, Bristol, BS13 8FD; headquartered in London with a New York office). Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy in 2021. Note that ownership is currently in transition: on 18 February 2026 Etsy announced 'eBay to Acquire Depop from Etsy', and Depop's own help centre FAQ describes the deal as not yet closed, so the parent company may change. Because Depop is a marketplace and a payments business, it holds far more than a shopping profile: your public @username, bio, profile picture, country, follower graph and every listing photo and video you posted, plus your legal name, email address, phone number, date of birth, delivery and shipping addresses, DMs with buyers and sellers, and your full buying and selling history. If you sold, Depop's US Notice confirms it also collects government-issued ID numbers (e.g. a driver's licence) to verify sellers at onboarding and a tax identification number when you set up to sell, and the Privacy Policy confirms bank account details and payment card data pass through Depop Payments via Stripe. Depop states plainly that deleting your account is irreversible.

Delete your Depop account, step by step

  1. 1Before anything else, clear your Depop Balance to zero. Depop states you "will need to ensure you have withdrawn any funds from your Depop Balance before your account can be closed". On Depop Payments, tap 'Withdraw' on the Payments page in the Depop app to send funds to your linked bank account.
  2. 2Budget time for this: Depop's own Withdrawals article notes that "Withdrawals are not yet available to all users", and that sale earnings sit as a "pending balance" until the item is delivered — only then do they become available to withdraw. You may also have to verify your identity and add bank details before withdrawal is enabled.
  3. 3Complete or refund every outstanding sale and resolve any open disputes. Depop warns that not doing so "may impact any Depop accounts you may open in the future".
  4. 4iOS — the only true self-service path: open the Depop app and tap 'My Depop', then 'My account'.
  5. 5Choose 'Account details', then scroll down to 'Delete account'.
  6. 6Choose the reason for deleting your account when prompted, then confirm. This is irreversible and all of your data will be permanently deleted.
  7. 7Android — Depop must delete it for you: tap 'My Depop', then 'My account', choose 'Profile', then 'Delete account'. This does not delete anything itself; it takes you to Depop's contact form, where you say why you want to delete the account and an agent processes it.
  8. 8Web — no in-browser delete button exists: go to the Depop Help Centre 'Submit a request' form at https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new?ticket_form_id=9057304340881 and send the request from the email address associated with your Depop account.
  9. 9If you land on the generic form page first, pick the option labelled 'Click here to request an account deletion' from the dropdown (the help article still calls this 'Delete My Account'). Confirm your @username and give the reason for deleting your account.
  10. 10Watch that inbox — Depop "may need to request specific information from you when you exercise your rights to confirm your identity", so a missed verification reply can stall the request indefinitely.

What actually happens when you delete

Gets removed

  • Your login and account record — email address, password, phone number and saved account details
  • Your public profile: @username, bio, profile picture, country, website link, followers and following
  • All of your listings, including every listing photo and video you uploaded
  • Your likes, saved items, search history, size preferences and personalisation settings
  • Your marketing subscriptions and push-notification consents (though asking Depop to stop sharing your email with advertising partners is a separate request to [email protected])
  • Your buyer/seller message history on your side of the account, and your access to your own order and sales records

Stays behind

  • Transaction records. Depop keeps data after deactivation 'to retain proof of transactions, so we can enforce our rights, and enable the other party to a transaction to access records of past purchases or sales' — the buyer or seller on the other side of your orders keeps their receipt
  • Anything other users hold or reshared. Depop says 'some of your data may persist and appear within the Service, for example where your data has been shared by other users of our Service' — messages you sent stay in the other person's inbox
  • Data retained if you were banned. If your account was banned rather than closed by you, Depop 'will retain certain data about you to prevent you from opening a new account'
  • Payment and KYC records at Stripe. Depop Payments runs through Stripe, which receives your name, bank account details, card details and transaction data and keeps its own records under financial regulation
  • Search-engine copies. Depop's Terms note it is 'possible that search engines will continue to find and display your User Content as part of their search results, if you made your User Content available through other companies' services'
  • Backups. Data is kept 'for legal or technical reasons (including back-up systems)' before Depop either deletes it or converts it 'to a form that does not identify you, with or without notice to you'

Before you delete

The single biggest gotcha is platform asymmetry: only iOS has a genuine self-service delete. Android and web users are routed to a support ticket, so closure depends on Depop's queue rather than a button, and Depop publishes no turnaround for closure tickets (the one-month figure in its Privacy Policy is the response target for data-rights requests, not for account closure). Second, money gates the whole process — Depop cannot close an account with funds in the Depop Balance, incomplete or unrefunded sales, or open disputes, and the withdrawal itself can be slow because earnings stay 'pending' until delivery and withdrawals are not yet enabled for every user. A negative Depop Payments balance becomes a collectable debt rather than a reason to walk away. Third, 'irreversible' is literal: there is no reactivation window at all. If you only want a break, use Vacation Mode (7 days, auto-expiring) rather than deleting. Fourth, deletion is not erasure — Depop expressly retains proof of transactions so counterparties can still see records of past purchases and sales, keeps identifying data on banned accounts specifically to stop re-registration, and holds copies in backup systems before deleting or anonymising them; its blanket 'all of your data will be permanently deleted' should be read against those documented exceptions. Sellers should note Depop Payments data also lives at Stripe, which keeps its own payment and identity-verification records under financial-regulatory obligations. Ownership is in flux: Etsy announced on 18 February 2026 that eBay would acquire Depop, and Depop's help centre FAQ still describes the transaction as not yet closed, saying Depop will keep its brand and operate as a standalone business unit within eBay once it does. Useful contacts beyond [email protected]: Depop's Data Protection Officer is [email protected] (Aphaia Ltd), and the EU representative is [email protected]. Finally, third-party guides still circulate a '[email protected]' address; it appears nowhere in Depop's current documentation — use the in-app flow or the Help Centre form.

Download your data from Depop first

Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

  1. 1Sellers first — get your sales CSV, which is web-only: log in at www.depop.com, open your Selling Hub via the 'Sell' icon in the top-right, select 'Stats' on the left, click 'Download sales' in the top right, choose your date range (up to 3 months at a time) and click 'Download'. You must be on a laptop or desktop to see this option; the file covers dates, buyer usernames, item descriptions, quantities, pricing, fees and shipping info.
  2. 2For everything else, email [email protected] from the address registered to your Depop account, or file a Help Centre request at https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new.
  3. 3State that you are exercising your right of access (UK/EU GDPR) or your right to know/access (US state privacy laws) and ask for a copy of the personal information Depop holds about you.
  4. 4Include your @username and be ready to verify your identity — Depop "may need to request specific information from you when you exercise your rights to confirm your identity", and for US requests it may also need to confirm your residency and can deny the request if it cannot verify you.
  5. 5Depop aims to respond to valid requests within one month, and will tell you if a complex or repeated request needs longer.
  6. 6Wait until you actually have the data before submitting your deletion request — deletion is irreversible.

Want to take a break instead? Deactivate

Deactivation hides your profile without permanently destroying it. Logging back in restores everything.

  1. 1Depop has no account-level deactivation that preserves your account in a dormant state — its Terms of Service use 'deactivate' as a synonym for closing the account. What it does offer is Vacation Mode, which pauses purchases from your shop for 7 days: in the app go to 'My Depop' > 'My account' (also labelled Settings, top right) > scroll to 'Vacation Mode' > swipe the toggle; on web, go to your Selling Hub > 'Vacation Mode' > swipe the toggle. It switches off automatically after 7 days, so re-enable it if you are away longer. While it is on, buyers see a banner that your shop isn't open and cannot bag or buy your items, but your shop and listings still appear in search, items can still be liked and saved, and you must still ship sold orders and take part in open disputes. For a longer break, delete or unlist your listings, turn off marketing emails and push notifications under 'My Depop' > 'My account', and stop signing in — but be aware the Privacy Policy notes Depop may deactivate an account itself if you 'have been inactive for a long time'.

You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.

Depop deletion FAQs

Why is there no 'Delete account' option in my Depop app?+

Because a real one only exists on iOS. On iPhone/iPad you get a genuine in-app delete under 'My Depop' > 'My account' > 'Account details' > 'Delete account'. On Android, the identically-named 'Delete account' item (under 'My Depop' > 'My account' > 'Profile') just opens Depop's contact form — a human agent has to action it. On the website there is no delete control at all; you must submit a Help Centre request from the email address on the account, choosing the 'Click here to request an account deletion' form and confirming your @username. Depop's Terms of Service say the same thing more bluntly: iOS users 'can close your Account in the app settings', and 'for non-iOS users, you can request closure of your Account by raising a ticket with us'.

Why is Depop refusing to close my account?+

Three documented blockers. (1) A non-zero Depop Balance — you must withdraw the funds first, and note that earnings stay as a 'pending balance' until the item is delivered, withdrawals are 'not yet available to all users', and you may need to pass identity verification and add a bank account before you can withdraw at all. (2) Outstanding sales that haven't been completed or refunded. (3) Open disputes, which Depop asks you to resolve before closing. A negative Depop Payments balance is worse: under the Terms of Service, if Depop has to reimburse a buyer, 'a debt will be created for the amount that you owe us' and Depop will 'try to collect this amount from your bank ... or via a Stripe payment link', and it may suspend your access while the balance is negative. Depop warns that closing with unfinished business 'may impact any Depop accounts you may open in the future'.

Can I take a break instead of deleting — does Depop have a vacation mode?+

Yes. Depop has an official Vacation Mode that pauses purchases from your shop for 7 days. In the app: 'My Depop' > 'My account' (also labelled Settings, top right) > scroll to 'Vacation Mode' > toggle on. On web: Selling Hub > 'Vacation Mode' > toggle. It turns itself off automatically after 7 days, so you must switch it back on if you're away longer. It is a shop pause, not account deactivation: buyers see a banner saying your shop isn't open and can't buy or bag your items, but your shop still appears in search, your listings still show and can be liked and saved, and you must still ship sold orders and take part in any open disputes.

Can I recover my Depop account or reuse my @username after deleting?+

No recovery. Depop's help article is explicit: 'If your account is deleted this is irreversible and all of your data will be permanently deleted.' There is no reactivation window, no grace period and no support route to undo it. Depop does not publish any policy on releasing @usernames back into circulation, so do not delete on the assumption you can re-register the same handle; if you want it, change your username on a different account before you close this one.

How long does Depop keep my data after I delete my account?+

Depop publishes no fixed number. Its Privacy Policy (effective 3 September 2023) says only that after deactivation your data 'will be kept for a period of time', that it may be retained longer 'for legal or technical reasons (including back-up systems)', and that afterwards Depop 'will either delete the data or change it to a form that does not identify you, with or without notice to you'. For a specific category — seller ID documents, tax records, payout history — the policy directs you to ask: 'For details of retention periods for other aspects of your data, please contact us at [email protected].'

How do I get a copy of my data before I delete my Depop account?+

There is no one-click full export. Under UK/EU GDPR and US state privacy laws you have a right of access, exercised by emailing [email protected] or filing a Help Centre request at https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new. Depop tries to respond to valid requests within one month and may ask you to verify your identity first; under the US Notice it 'may need to confirm your residency' and may 'deny your request if we are unable to verify your identity or residency'. Sellers should separately grab the sales CSV from the website (Selling Hub > Stats > Download sales — desktop only) while the account still exists. Do this and actually receive the data before you submit the deletion request.

Depop suspended my account and is holding my payout — what happens now?+

This is separate from deletion and it's the harshest clause in the Terms of Service: if Depop suspends or terminates your access, it 'may withhold any amounts that have not yet been paid out to you for 180 days from the applicable transaction date', or such other period required by a court order, law enforcement or sanctions compliance. Depop can also terminate or suspend 'any Accounts Depop determines are related to your account'. Deleting or abandoning the account does not release the money — appeal the moderation decision via the route in Depop's Content Moderation Policy first, and only close once the balance is actually in your bank.

How do I close the Depop account of someone who has died?+

Depop will do this, but only for immediate family. Submit a request through Depop's contact form at https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new?ticket_form_id=6804528236049 and supply proof of your relationship to the account holder (such as a driving licence or passport) plus proof of death (a death certificate or a link to an obituary). Once Depop has both, it will proceed with the account closure on your behalf. Depop's Terms add that where a request comes from someone who is not the account holder, it may ask for proof of who you are and your relationship to the user.
