How to delete your TikTok account
TikTok is a short-form video platform with over a billion monthly users, owned by ByteDance. TikTok stores every video you've uploaded, every video you watched and how long you watched it, the comments and DMs you sent, your search history, device identifiers, IP addresses, and (depending on permissions) face and voice patterns used by the recommendation algorithm. TikTok also retains a recoverable shadow copy for 30 days after deletion.
Delete your TikTok account, step by step
- 1Open the TikTok app or tiktok.com
- 2Tap your profile, then the menu icon (three lines)
- 3Open 'Settings and privacy' > 'Account'
- 4Tap 'Deactivate or delete account'
- 5Choose 'Delete account permanently'
- 6Pick a reason and read the warning
- 7Verify with your phone or email code
- 8Tap 'Continue' to confirm — account enters 30-day deletion period

Before you delete
Download your data BEFORE deleting — once the 30-day window passes you can't get it. TikTok virtual coins, Live gifts, and creator-fund balances are forfeited at deletion with no refund. Cancel TikTok-managed subscriptions and (if applicable) creator payouts first. Sub-accounts (a Family Pairing relationship) must be detached separately.
Download your data from TikTok first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

- 2Choose 'TXT' (readable) or 'JSON' (machine-readable)
- 3Tap 'Request data'
- 4Wait up to a few days for processing
- 5Return to the same screen and tap 'Download data' to get the ZIP

You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.

How long does it take to delete a TikTok account?+
Your account is deactivated immediately and queued for permanent deletion 30 days later. Logging in during the 30-day window cancels the deletion — so don't sign in if you want the account gone.
Will my TikTok videos be removed from other people's duets and stitches?+
No. Other people's duets and stitches are separate uploads on their accounts — they remain even after your original is deleted. You can report individual duets/stitches if they violate community guidelines.
What happens to my TikTok coins and gifts when I delete?+
Coins, virtual gifts, and creator fund balances are forfeited with no refund. If you have a meaningful balance, spend or cash out (where eligible) before deletion.
Can I delete my TikTok account if I forgot my password?+
Reset your password first using your linked email or phone. If you can't access either, file a support form through the Help Center and provide ID for verification — TikTok can help recover the account so you can delete it.
Will deleting TikTok remove my videos from Google and other search engines?+
TikTok removes your profile and videos from tiktok.com after the 30-day window, but cached copies can persist on Google, Bing, and the Internet Archive for weeks. Submit removal requests through Google Search Console for any URLs you specifically want gone.
Are there age or region restrictions on deleting TikTok?+
No. Deletion is available to all users globally. In the EU, UK, California, and several other jurisdictions you also have a separate right to demand erasure via TikTok's GDPR/CCPA forms — which is a stronger guarantee than the standard self-service flow.
