How to delete your Epic Games account
Epic Games operates Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, and the Epic Games Store, along with the Unreal Engine. Your Epic Games account holds every game you redeemed (including the long list of free weekly giveaways), your Fortnite locker (skins, V-Bucks, battle-pass history), creator/Support-A-Creator status, every linked console (PSN, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam) for cross-platform play, and connected Twitch/Discord accounts.
Delete your Epic Games account, step by step
- 1Sign in to epicgames.com and go to Account > 'General'
- 2Or open epicgames.com/account/delete directly
- 3Scroll to 'Request Account Delete'
- 4Click 'Request Account Delete'
- 5Choose a reason and confirm
- 6Open the confirmation email Epic sends and click the link
- 7Account enters a 14-day grace period then is permanently deleted
What actually happens when you delete
Gets removed
- ✓Your Epic Games account, display name, and login email
- ✓Every game in your Epic Games Store library (including free weekly games)
- ✓Fortnite locker, V-Bucks, battle-pass progress, and Fortnite Crew membership
- ✓Rocket League items, Rocket Pass progress, and credits balance
- ✓Unreal Marketplace purchases and Support-A-Creator status
Stays behind
- ✗Records Epic retains for billing, tax, anti-fraud, and legal compliance
- ✗Linked PSN/Xbox/Nintendo accounts remain functional on their own
- ✗Friends you played with retain match history on their side
- ✗Unreal Engine projects you developed locally remain on your hard drive
- ✗Replays and clips other players saved of you remain on their accounts
Before you delete
Deletion erases your Fortnite locker, V-Bucks balance, battle-pass progress, and entire Epic Games Store library (all those free weekly games are gone). Unlink connected platforms (PSN, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam) BEFORE deletion so those accounts can still play cross-platform games without being held hostage by the old Epic link. If you're a Support-A-Creator member or sell on the Unreal Marketplace, settle outstanding payouts first.
Download your data from Epic Games first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.
- 1Sign in to your Epic account at epicgames.com
- 2Go to Account > 'General'
- 3Click 'Request Account Data'
- 4Verify via email
- 5Epic delivers a downloadable archive (CSV/JSON) within 30 days
If deletion fails — or you live in the EU, UK, or California
You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.
Epic Games deletion FAQs
Will I lose my Fortnite skins and V-Bucks if I delete my Epic Games account?+
Yes. The entire Fortnite locker, including V-Bucks, battle-pass items, and any exclusive skins like Travis Scott or Marvel collabs, is permanently lost. Skins do NOT transfer to another Epic account.
What happens to all my free Epic Games Store games?+
Those free games (Civilization VI, GTA V, Control, etc.) were redeemed against your account, not granted permanently to your person. When the account is deleted, the library disappears. The free-games promotion does not survive account closure.
How long is the Epic Games deletion grace period?+
Epic holds the account for 14 days after you confirm the email link. Logging in or starting a game during that period cancels the deletion. After day 14 the account is permanently removed.
How do I separate Fortnite cross-progression from my Epic account?+
Before deletion, go to Account > Connections and UNLINK every console (PSN, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam). Otherwise those external accounts remain tied to the deleted Epic identity, which can prevent them from linking to a new Epic account for up to 24 months.
Can I get a refund on V-Bucks or Crew Pack purchases before deleting?+
Epic generally only refunds within 14 days of purchase and only if items haven't been used. V-Bucks that have been spent or are part of older purchases are not refundable. Spend or convert what you can BEFORE deletion.
I'm a creator using Support-A-Creator — what happens to my code?+
The creator code is deactivated and earnings beyond the current payout cycle stop. Settle pending payouts via the Epic Creator Portal first. Any campaigns or partnerships built on your code need to be communicated to your sponsors before deletion.
