How to delete your Amazon account
Amazon is the world's largest e-commerce and cloud-services company, with hundreds of millions of customer accounts. A single Amazon account ties together shopping history, Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Alexa, Ring, and (in the US) Whole Foods. Amazon retains your full order history, product reviews, search queries, address book, payment methods, voice recordings (Alexa), camera footage (Ring), and downloadable content licenses for Kindle/Audible.
Delete your Amazon account, step by step
- 1Go to amazon.com/privacy/data-deletion while signed in
- 2Or navigate: Your Account > 'Login & security' > 'Close Your Amazon Account' link
- 3Pick a reason (optional) and acknowledge what will be lost
- 4Click 'Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account'

Before you delete
Closing an Amazon account is destructive across every Amazon service. You lose access to your entire Kindle library (purchased ebooks), Audible audiobooks, Prime Video purchases and rentals, Amazon Music uploads, Alexa devices, and Ring camera history. Settle pending orders and returns FIRST. AWS accounts are SEPARATE — close those at console.aws.amazon.com. If you sell on Amazon, close your Seller Central account through Seller support first.
Download your data from Amazon first
Most platforms only honor a data-export request while the account is still active. Do this before you delete.

- 3Click 'Submit Request'
- 4Verify via email
- 5Archive arrives by email within 30 days, often within a few days

You have a legal right to request erasure of your personal data under GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California). Use these official channels if the self-service flow doesn't work.
Amazon deletion FAQs
Will I lose my Kindle and Audible books if I close my Amazon account?+
Yes. All Kindle ebooks, Audible audiobooks, and Prime Video purchases tied to the account are deleted with no refund. Download books you want to keep BEFORE closing — though most are wrapped in DRM that ties them to Amazon's apps. If you want a refund on recent purchases, request that first then close.
Does closing my Amazon account also close AWS?+
No. AWS accounts are separate. If you use AWS, close it at console.aws.amazon.com > Account Settings > Close Account. Closing AWS also terminates all S3 buckets, EC2 instances, IAM users, etc. — back up data first.
What happens to my Prime subscription if I close my Amazon account?+
Active Prime memberships are cancelled. You may be eligible for a partial refund if you haven't used Prime benefits recently. Settle this before closing because there's no support workflow once the account is gone.
Can I delete just my Amazon reviews without closing my account?+
Yes. Go to Your Profile > Community Activity to see all your reviews, comments, and answers. Click into each one and delete individually. There is no bulk-delete tool — third-party scripts exist but use them carefully because Amazon throttles automated requests.
Will my Alexa voice recordings be deleted?+
Yes, with the account. To delete recordings without closing the account, go to Alexa Privacy > Review Voice History > Delete by date range, or say 'Alexa, delete what I just said' / 'Alexa, delete everything I said today'.
How long does Amazon take to actually close an account?+
Most closures complete in 5–15 days after you confirm via email. If you have pending orders, returns, or seller obligations, Amazon may pause the closure until those are resolved.
